Training & Examinations – Learning Objectives
« Licensing      « JAR-FCL

• The Learning Objectives relate to the JAR-FCL theoretical knowledge syllabus requirements and represent an indication of the depth and scope of knowledge required by the JAA Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Instrument Rating (IR) for both Aeroplanes and Helicopters.  In order that the individual learning objectives may be read as complete sentences, they should be assumed to be preceded by the words:  "On successful completion of training the student should be able to...."  In general, the Learning Objectives are worded in such a way that the standard required to achieve them is self evident.  Where specific 'Conditions' and Standards' are required to expand on individual learning objectives, these appear in the 'Remarks' column against the relevant objective.

• The Learning Objectives have been produced by training specialists from Europe's leading pilot training schools in co-operation with experts from the JAA National Aviation Authorities.  Amendments to the Learning Objectives will be made from time to time to reflect changes to the theoretical knowledge syllabus, and the consequent updating of the Central Question Bank.  An official amendment procedure has been established to ensure that all necessary amendments are carried out before any questions on entirely new topics are included in examinations.

• The Learning Objectives form part of the JAA Administrative and Guidance material, Section 5: Licensing.  They are intended for use by the training industry when developing JAR-FCL theoretical knowledge courses.  It should be noted that the objectives do not provide a ready-made ground training syllabus for individual flying training organisations, and should not be viewed by schools as a substitute for thorough course design.
